About Lora DiCarlo
The company was founded in 2017 by Laura Haddock, whose experience and inspiration were translated into reality in collaboration with the University of Oregon. Success and international attention followed in no time.
CES Innovation Award Affair
In 2018, Lora DiCarlo was nominated for an Award in Robotics at the CES expo in Las Vegas organized by the CTA. However, its nomination was subsequently withdrawn and the Osé product was removed from the exhibition. Although Osé boasted several patents and technological innovations not only in the field of robotics but also in biomimetics, the organizers called it abnormal and obscene.
Women’s sexual health as a positive approach to sex
There was talk that the organizers found the erotic device too immoral, which of course has not gone unnoticed these days. The scandal that arose around it not only became an advertisement for the brand, but also started a critical discussion about gender equality , and Lora DiCarlo continued to relentlessly promote the importance of women’s sexual health .
“Everything we do at Lora DiCarlo is rooted in a positive approach to sex and inclusion. We make no secret of what we do, and we firmly believe that women, non-binary people, those who do not see themselves as either men or women, people whose gender does not fit with conventions, LGBTQI people should loudly demand space for us in the field of pleasure and technology. Both sectors are still dominated by men in CEO positions and in management. We also believe that society needs to reject the taboo around sex and sexuality, it is a part of life and health. And it should certainly be part of mainstream discourse, public debate. Not shaming, not embarrassment and shame – the comfort and freedom to be yourself and enjoy your body is the place.” Lora Haddock
Media, support and change for the better
The brand subsequently received support from the state of Oregon and a grand prize of 2.2 million crowns helped launch their product. The whole case, but also the products themselves, certainly did not escape the attention of media around the world, from The New York Times to the BBC to Czech servers. Subsequently, CTA and CES acknowledged their mistake and in May 2019 the award was returned to the company , with the understanding that the next exhibition would also include news from the field of sexual technology.
